Acupuncture has been practised for at least 2,000 years and involves the insertion of single-use disposable needles into pressure points along energy pathways of the body. This activates powerful healing forces and removes blockages to the flow of energy thus restoring balance. Acupuncture is one of the most effective treatments for a wide range of muscle, nerve and joint related problems, as well as a variety of specific ailments and conditions.  It can benefit acute injuries, or longer term, more chronic complaints.  It should not, however, be taken or construed as standard Western medical diagnosis or treatment.  For any medical condition, always consult with a qualified health professional.

Acupuncture is not a ‘quick fix’ therapy.  In most cases the improvements brought about are gradual.  An acupuncture treatment will usually leave the client feeling happy and full of energy. However, during the early stages of treatment you may experience deterioration in your condition, this is not unusual.  The phenomenon of getting a little worse before getting better is common in many health disciplines.  Please be patient during this period and be sure to follow any recommendations I may provide. I may also use Electro-Acupuncture which involves the stimulation of acupuncture points using a small electric current through acupuncture needles or Tui Na, Chinese Medical Massage Therapy using acupressure points.

You may experience some minor changes after a treatment, including light-headedness, tiredness, altered bowel function or emotional state.  You should mention these changes to me, but there is no need to be concerned.

Moxa is a Chinese herb which is put onto needles and left to burn, or a moxa stick is held over specific acupoints. Its purpose is to warm the area and corresponding energy pathway.

Cupping:  Glass cups are applied on the skin. The purpose is to draw out toxins (harmful energies), remove blood stagnation, and increase the circulation of blood and Qi in the area. Cupping can cause bruising which may last about a week.

All information collected from you will be dealt with sensitively and securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.   Client information is confidential and will only be shared with your agreement. I hope that you enjoy your treatment and look forward to working with you to help you achieve your health care goals.
